[Round Two Winner: 2/8] Harshit Bora – Intelligent Helmet

Posted By: Rise Team|Dated: January 23, 2012

After his friend died in an unfortunate bike accident, Harshit came up with Intelligent Helmet—an interactive way to prevent bike accidents and injuries.

What is Intelligent Helmet all about?

What it does is it will make you to wear a helmet compulsory while driving a bike or motorcycle or moped. Plus, if unfortunately there is some accident, then it will send an SMS with the coordinates or location where the accident took place to a family member.

What inspired you to create this?

In our third year of engineering, one of our fourth year colleagues died while driving his motorcycle, and he was not wearing a helmet. So we thought why should we wait for the government to make it mandatory? Let bike be interactive, let bike tell the driver: you wear a helmet and only then I’ll start.

What is your experience with Spark the Rise?

This project requires some investment of time and money both. And after doing grad for four years from our family we get pressure of start earning money, and I feel like go into this project for the first 6 months to 1 year we won’t have any money. So we thought that we should earn first for two years and invest the money into our project, and then we can start our enterprise. That was what we planned, but if Mahindra is helping us with the financial aspect, then we can work on our project and not think about the money.

We do not yet have the details of its specs, hence do not mistake the comments as negatives. Is the bike tied up with the helmet in order to start only if it is worn? What happens if it is taken out after once starting? Also, tying up helmet and bike reduces the availability of bike for a second user. What about the pillion rider- should he or she too wear the helmet? How does it work in case of sardars not wearing a helmet? And many more such doubts. But the SMS concept is good. Godspeed.
