[Grand Finale Finalist: 8/18] Gopal S. Agrawal – Krishi Go Sanskriti – Prosper with Desi Cows
Posted By: Rise Team|Dated: March 23, 2012
The Desi-cow is one of the most iconic symbols of India, but its existence is being threatened. Because the Desi-breed of cows produce less milk than crossbreeds they are economically less beneficial.
“To me Rise is adding value to the lives of others. Spark the Rise has provided me an excellent platform to convert my dreams into reality – for the benefit of all.” – Gopal S. Agrawal
However, the Desi-breed gives more than just milk! For centuries they have been at the center of the agricultural based economy (let alone the religious and spiritual). While they produce less, their milk is superior in quality to that of crossbreeds and their dung and urine has many usages in agriculture and Ayurvedic medicines. We realized that there is demand for genuine Desi-Cow dung and urine but there is a missing link between buyers and Desi-Cow owners.
Meet Gopal S. Agrawal. He is working to combat this issue by setting up a collective manufacturing unit near Pune, Maharashtra to produce products like high quality compost and medicinal cow products using Desi-cow urine and dung bought from local farmers, thus providing them assured additional income directly in their hands without worrying about technical know-how, processing or selling Cow Products. The unit will benefit from economies of scale and focused marketing with users of compost and medicinal manufacturers. Gopal and his team are working to preserve the Indian cow, promote more sustainable organic farming and promote rural employment.
Top three reasons to vote for Gopal’s project:
Farmers will get additional income through cow urine and cow dung sales.
The products and byproducts from desi-cows will help everyone improve and maintain good health!
Organic fertilizers and organic pesticides made from Desi-cow manure will ensure sustainable agriculture. Other eco-friendly products will help in reducing the pollution of soil, water and air.
Too often farmers suffer greatly from unsuccessful crop yields, bad monsoons, and destructive pests. While Farms n Farmers cannot control the weather, they are helping farmers to increase their earning potential.
Shashank drives efficiency in agriculture by advising on everything from crop selection to marketing. He and his team live in villages to build relationships with farmers.
The work is very good. If the model at pune gets success then it can be replicated all over. But i am not getting the purpose of votes. Is it for making some law?

I love country cows and I have brought one mother with calf and two one year old calves. People say I have wasted money, but I believe Iam right. I wish I get more traditional breeds.
