[Grand Finale Finalist: 6/18] Balasaheb Palve – Astitva
Posted By: Rise Team|Dated: March 22, 2012
Balasaheb Palve knows that strong academics aren’t enough to get you a good job. It also takes strong general and interpersonal skills, something that most academic programs never teach.
Enter Astitva, a program to help underprivileged students aged 13-25 learn the life skills they need for a successful career. These skills span Communication and Public Speaking, Emotional Intelligence, Interpersonal Relationships, Manners and Etiquette, Fitness and Sports, Problem-Solving, Assertiveness, Leadership, Teamwork, Time Management, and Self-Empowerment. Astitva gives each student 60 intensive hours of practical experience, discussion, and theory. Each student is paired with a mentor to help him or her explore career goals and improve their interpersonal skills. Astitva has already launched a pilot program in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, and needs a grant to expand.
Top three reasons why you should vote for Astitva:
To make sure that the underprivileged students who have come so far as to complete their education have the life skills to land a job.
To give each individual student a mentor who can help them make important career decisions.
To give each student life skills outside academics that will help them succeed not only professionally, but also personally.
